Batch Review — dp-1-2-the-human-fall

Source: resources/DP/Part1/Chapter02-the-human-fall/ (all 6 section files) Scope: 26 atomics, all /reference/. No glossary/person stubs added (Phase 1 pre-stubs cover everything Ch 2 cites). 1 new-tag request (fallen-nature). Variant: foundation-pass (ADR-0021) Granularity: per-chapter (one batch = one chapter folder, all sections combined) — same as Ch 1

This is DP’s most distinctive and contested chapter (sexual-fall doctrine, archangel-as-Lucifer, lineage-as-original-sin-vector, theodicy of non-intervention). Atomics extract DP’s claims as factual statements per CONTEXT.md schema. Contested counter-positions are deferred to parking-lot threads, not atomized as “counter” notes.

A pre-grill session (/grill-with-docs) resolved the granularity decision tree: wide-split (matching Ch 1), uniform one-atomic-per-list for multi-part doctrines, forward-anticipating atomics permitted where Ch 4/5/restoration content surfaces naturally.

Glossary / Person updates

None this batch. All glossary terms wikilinked ([[fall]], [[archangel]], [[fallen-nature]], [[original-sin]], [[lineage]], [[four-position-foundation]], [[give-and-take-action]], [[principle-of-creation]], [[purpose-of-creation]], [[holy-spirit]], [[messiah]], [[second-advent]], [[true-parents]], [[true-love]], [[blessing]], [[formation-growth-completion-stages]], [[restoration]], [[providence]], [[spirit-world]], [[believers-responsibility]], [[human-portion-of-responsibility]], [[divine-constraint]]) and all persons ([[adam]], [[eve]], [[abraham]], [[jesus]]) exist as pre-stubs. Bodies stay empty per the prestub-glossary rule.

On finalize, every Person/Glossary file whose slug is wikilinked from one of these atomics will get its ## Referenced by section regenerated via the fixed-point iteration script.

Suspected duplicates / cross-batch notes

  • Ch 1’s dp-fall-occurred-at-top-of-growth-stage: Ch 2’s dp-physical-fall-eve-adam-premature-sex and dp-commandment-binds-only-during-immaturity are the proximate-mechanism atomics that the Ch 1 atomic deferred to. The Ch 1 atomic explicitly says “the detailed defense is reserved for Part 1 Ch 2.” Tight cross-link cluster; not duplicates.
  • Ch 1’s dp-perfected-individuals-cannot-fall: Ch 2’s dp-commandment-binds-only-during-immaturity refines this to the conjugal case (perfected husband-wife conjugal love is inviolable). Distinct framing — Ch 1 is individual-ontological, Ch 2 is conjugal-relational. Thread candidate (see Parking).
  • Ch 1’s dp-good-and-evil-defined-by-four-position-alignment: Ch 2’s dp-good-and-evil-discerned-by-purpose-direction-not-form is the same doctrine from the discernment angle. Ch 1 = structural definition (which 4PF); Ch 2 = practical heuristic (same act, different fruit). Not duplicates.
  • Ch 1’s dp-conscience-operates-via-give-and-take-with-god: Pairs with Ch 2’s dp-satan-acts-only-through-common-base-with-evil-spirits-and-humans — same give-and-take mechanism applied to opposite-polarity counterpart-formation.
  • Ch 1’s dp-humans-rule-both-spirit-and-physical-worlds: Direct cross-link to Ch 2’s dp-angels-created-as-servants-to-be-ruled-by-humans — humans-over-angels is one instance of humans-over-spirit-world.
  • Ch 1’s dp-human-portion-of-responsibility-inviolable-even-by-god: Ch 2’s dp-three-reasons-god-did-not-intervene-in-the-fall extends the Ch 1 structural rule into a theodicy with three named justifications. Not duplicate; load-bearing thread.
  • CSG fall cluster (csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-god, csg-religions-as-archangel-realm, csg-satan-accusation-rights-basis, csg-six-thousand-year-search-under-grief): substantial overlap with Ch 2 §1 (Lucifer-as-archangel), §4 (Satan’s activities, accusation), and the theodicy of providence-length. Distinct framings (Moon’s later more emotive CSG vs the early DP systematic). All thread candidates during weaving.

Tag-registry requests

One new tag requested (marked * in atomic table above):

TagAtomics using itJustification
fallen-nature1 (this batch); will recur in Ch 3 (Restoration), Ch 5 (Resurrection), and across Part 2 providential periodsDistinct from fall (the event) and sin (the result): fallen-nature is the structural-inclination doctrine specifically (the four primary characteristics). Glossary entry already exists (/glossary/fallen-nature.md). Distinguishing the tag from fall lets weaving find atomics about the inclination separately from atomics about the event and the result.

If rejected, dp-four-primary-fallen-nature-characteristics drops the tag (no body change needed; fall and sin remain).

Threads (7)

  1. Sexual-fall doctrine vs orthodox pride-as-root-sin — anchors: dp-spiritual-fall-eve-lucifer-illicit-sex, dp-physical-fall-eve-adam-premature-sex, dp-fruit-of-knowledge-symbolizes-eves-consummated-love, dp-original-sin-transmitted-via-blood-lineage | trigger: DP §1.3–1.5 + §2.2 | one-line: DP’s most contested doctrine vs the Augustinian City of God XIV reading of pride/disobedience as the essence of the fall — orthodoxy holds the fruit was literal or that the essence-of-sin was the prideful act of disobedience, not its sexual character
  2. Lucifer-named vs modern OT scholarship — anchors: dp-lucifer-was-archangel-and-channel-of-gods-love, dp-serpent-is-the-fallen-archangel | trigger: DP §2.2.1 | one-line: DP confidently names Lucifer from the Isa 14 / Ezek 28 / Rev 12 conflation; modern OT scholarship (Walton, Block) reads Isa 14 as taunt against Babylon’s king, not Satan-myth — does DP’s typological identification survive critical exegesis?
  3. Theodicy of non-intervention: DP vs Calvinism vs open theism — anchors: dp-three-reasons-god-did-not-intervene-in-the-fall, dp-power-of-love-is-stronger-than-power-of-principle | trigger: DP §6 | one-line: DP’s three-reasons theodicy stands against Reformed sovereignty (God sovereignly permitted the fall for greater glory), classical Arminian middle-knowledge, and open theism (God didn’t precisely know); DP is closer to open theism but uniquely constrained by the Principle. Extends Ch 1’s divine-constraint thread.
  4. Pre-fall envy in unfallen archangel — anchors: dp-four-primary-fallen-nature-characteristics, dp-lucifer-was-archangel-and-channel-of-gods-love | trigger: DP §4.6 (“envy is inevitable by-product of original nature, like shadow cast by object in light”) | one-line: DP concedes envy arose in an unfallen archangel from the unfallen original-nature pairing of intellect and desire — orthodox theology says no negative emotion in unfallen state; does this concede a flaw in original nature itself?
  5. Power-of-love > power-of-Principle as theodicy — anchors: dp-power-of-love-is-stronger-than-power-of-principle, dp-freedom-did-not-cause-the-fall-unprincipled-love-did | trigger: DP §3.1 + §5.2 | one-line: DP’s distinctive theodicy: God designed love stronger than principle because He governs by love; the fall’s possibility is the price of governance-by-love, not a design flaw. Engages free-will defense (Plantinga) and divine-impassibility tradition.
  6. Relative-goodness during restoration vs natural-law moral realism — anchors: dp-standard-of-goodness-is-relative-during-restoration | trigger: DP §4.3 | one-line: DP says standards of good shift with era and prevailing authority until Second Advent absolutizes them — bristles with Thomist natural-law (Aquinas ST I-II Q94) and Kantian deontology; could be misread as moral relativism.
  7. Pentecost-as-flaming-sword-removal — typology vs mission-empowerment — anchors: dp-pentecost-as-flaming-sword-removal-by-holy-spirit | trigger: DP §1.1.1 | one-line: DP’s typological reading of Acts 2 (Pentecost’s tongues = cherubim’s flaming sword cleared) competes with the mainstream mission-empowerment reading; thread should engage Patristic + modern Pentecostal readings.

Questions (4)

  1. [critical] If DP names “Lucifer” specifically as the archangel via Isa 14 + Ezek 28 + Rev 12, does this confidence survive modern OT scholarship’s pushback (Walton, Block: Isa 14 → king of Babylon; Ezek 28 → king of Tyre)? — anchors: dp-lucifer-was-archangel-and-channel-of-gods-love | one-line: keystone naming for DP’s fall narrative; if the conflation is exegetically weak, “the archangel” remains coherent but the Lucifer-name becomes detachable
  2. [critical] If perfected conjugal love is ontologically inviolable (§3.3), what does that imply for unmarried Jesus’s susceptibility to fall during his ministry? Did Jesus reach completion-stage without conjugal-completion, or is the §3.3 claim conditional on the marriage? — anchors: dp-commandment-binds-only-during-immaturity | one-line: christology hinge; defer to Ch 4 (Messiah)
  3. [interesting] Does “envy is an inevitable by-product of original nature, like shadow cast by object in light” (§4.6) concede that the original nature itself contains fall-conducive structural features? If so, the fall is probable (not just possible) under DP’s anthropology — a stronger theodicy claim than usually noticed. — anchors: dp-four-primary-fallen-nature-characteristics | one-line: implicates DP’s account of unfallen-state psychology
  4. [interesting] DP cites Sodom-Lot (Gen 19) as evidence for human-spirit sexual contact possibility (§2.2). The mainstream reading is that the Sodomites mistook the angels for human visitors and no actual sexual contact occurred. Does DP’s reading need this evidence to be load-bearing, or is the angel-Jacob-wrestling sufficient? — anchors: dp-spiritual-fall-eve-lucifer-illicit-sex | one-line: tests how much weight one Genesis 19 reading carries for DP’s spirit-flesh sexuality claim

Web-search (5)

  1. Augustine De Genesi ad litteram IX–XI and City of God XIV — needed-for: thread #1 (sexual-fall vs orthodox) | one-line: locate Augustine’s canonical reading of Gen 3 (concupiscence as effect of sin, pride/disobedience as essence) — load-bearing for steel-manned orthodox counter to DP’s sexual-fall reading
  2. John Walton + Daniel Block on Isaiah 14:12 / Ezekiel 28 — needed-for: thread #2 + question #1 (Lucifer-named) | one-line: verify the modern OT-scholarship pushback against the Isa-14-as-Satan-myth tradition (Babylon-king reading); cite when engaging DP’s Lucifer naming
  3. Reformed (Calvinist) sovereignty + open-theism literature on Gen 3 — needed-for: thread #3 (theodicy of non-intervention) | one-line: locate canonical Reformed defenses of God’s sovereign permission of the fall (e.g., Edwards’ Freedom of the Will, Sproul) and contemporary open-theism (Boyd, Pinnock) for the three-way contrast
  4. Aquinas ST I-II Q94 on natural law / moral realism — needed-for: thread #6 (relative goodness) | one-line: canonical defense of natural-law moral realism against DP’s era-relative goodness; pair with Kantian + virtue-ethics counter-positions
  5. Patristic + modern readings of Acts 2 / Pentecost — needed-for: thread #7 (Pentecost typology) | one-line: locate the dominant mission-empowerment reading (Pentecost = launch of the apostolic mission) and any Patristic typological readings (Pentecost-as-new-Sinai, etc.); DP’s flaming-sword-removal reading appears to be UC-distinctive

How to review

  1. Open /staging/dp-1-2-the-human-fall/reference/ in Obsidian or VS Code. 26 atomics.
  2. Skim by section grouping above. Each atomic targets a single load-bearing claim; check that the claim is genuine DP doctrine and the prose doesn’t drift past the source.
  3. Edit inline freely — re-shape, re-title, or split if a claim is doing too much work.
  4. Reject atomics by deleting them or marking them here. Common reject reasons: claim already covered, claim too thin, claim better folded into another, claim is interpretive overreach.
  5. Tag-registry request: approve or reject fallen-nature. Rejection = atomic drops the tag.
  6. Parked items: scan the threads/questions/web-search lists. If any question should be promoted to /questions/ now (rather than parked), say so per-item. Default = park.
  7. Say “approved” → finalize: move atomics to /reference/, copy REVIEW to _meta/batch-reviews/dp-1-2-the-human-fall.md, append parked items under a ## dp-1-2-the-human-fall — 2026-05-22 heading in each _meta/parking/*.md file, run the fixed-point Referenced-by regenerator for Person/Glossary files, delete the staging folder, single atomic commit (hook clean).

Finalize checklist

  • User approval received (incl. tag-registry verdict)
  • If fallen-nature approved: add to _meta/tags.md in the same commit
  • If rejected: edit dp-four-primary-fallen-nature-characteristics to drop the tag
  • Move 26 files from /staging/dp-1-2-the-human-fall/reference//reference/
  • Copy this REVIEW to _meta/batch-reviews/dp-1-2-the-human-fall.md
  • Append parked items to _meta/parking/{threads,questions,web-search}.md under ## dp-1-2-the-human-fall — 2026-05-22
