Claim. Periods of providential history repeat in similar form because each later period is set up to restore through indemnity an earlier failed period. The mechanism: when a central figure fails his portion of responsibility, his providential period closes; God — having absolutely predestined the Will — chooses a substitute and opens a new period whose conditions parallel the failed one, since the new figure must redo the same restoration work.

Elaboration. Per Part 2 Ch 4 §1:

  • Historians notice history-spirals but do not understand the cause. DP names it: the principal cause behind these parallels lies in God’s providence of restoration.
  • “When a central figure in the providence fails his responsibility to restore the foundation for the Messiah, the providential period centering on that person comes to a close.” God then opens another period, with the new central figure carrying parallel restoration conditions.
  • Parallels are not exact: the new central figure must restore horizontally (in his lifetime) all vertical indemnity conditions accumulated by previous failures. As history prolongs, the load grows heavier — so each successive parallel period differs in scale and content from its predecessor while sharing structure.

Significance. This is the operative mechanism that generates DP’s chronology of Adam→Noah→Abraham→Moses→Jesus→Second Advent. The doctrine is committed: every observable historical parallel between providential ages is caused by repeated dispensations to restore the foundation for the Messiah — not by sociological recurrence, archetypal psychology, or Marxian historical-materialist patterns.

The parallel-periods doctrine cashes out dp-providential-ages-restore-indemnity-of-lost-periods-of-faith at finer chronological grain: the 2000-year ages each contain six sub-periods that themselves parallel each other (slavery, judges, united kingdom, divided kingdom, exile, preparation-for-messiah → developed in §§3–4). Where dp-providence-progresses-in-spiral-with-parallel-periods gives the spiral shape, this atomic gives the why: spirals exist because central figures fail and substitutes inherit accumulating restoration debt.
