Batch Review — dp-2-5a-period-parallels
Source: resources/DP/Part2/Chapter05-the-parallels-between-the-two-ages-in-the-providence-of-restoration/ §§1–6 (151 lines across six paired-period sections)
Scope: 6 atomics, all /reference/. No glossary/person stubs added. 0 new-tag requests.
Variant: foundation-pass (ADR-0021)
Granularity: split-batch A of two — A covers §§1–6 (six paired-period synoptics), B covers §7 alone (the providence-of-history meta-synthesis). Decision driven by §7 being 145 lines of dense philosophy-of-history content distinct in form from the §§1–6 period-pair walks.
DP Part 2 Ch 5 §§1–6 are the operational-content counterpart to Ch 4’s chronological-length derivations. Where Ch 4’s six-period synoptics (dp-six-old-testament-age-periods-restoring-foundation-laying-age-through-image-parallels and dp-six-prolongation-age-periods-restoring-providence-of-restoration-through-substantial-parallels) gave the lengths of each providential period, Ch 5 §§1–6 give the content-level parallels — which exact events and figures pair across the two ages. Per handoff recommendation, granularity is synoptic-per-pair: one atomic per OT/NT pair captures the full bidirectional content-pairing claim. No additional per-section atomics needed (the per-pair synoptic is the atomic unit DP itself uses).
All grill decisions resolved per handoff’s recommended answers (user pre-committed). Pre-grep confirmed no exact duplicates with the existing 26 DP atomics in the period/parallel/messiah/exile cluster — the six new atomics supply content-level pairings between OT and NT specific historical events that Ch 4’s atomics did not contain.

Suspected duplicates / cross-batch notes
Pre-grep against reference/dp-* with terms (parallel, egypt, persecution, judges, united-kingdom, divided, exile, babylonian, papal, reformation, preparation, second-advent, messiah, history, providence) yielded 26 matches; no exact duplicates of these 6 content-parallel atomics. Key cross-batch relationships:
- dp-six-old-testament-age-periods-restoring-foundation-laying-age-through-image-parallels (Ch 4) — six-period OT chronology. New atomics supply the content-level OT/NT pairing of each period.
- dp-six-prolongation-age-periods-restoring-providence-of-restoration-through-substantial-parallels (Ch 4) — six-period NT chronology. New atomics supply the NT historical figures and events that fill each period.
- dp-parallel-providential-periods-arise-from-substitute-central-figure-after-failure (Ch 4) — mechanism generating parallel periods. New atomics demonstrate the mechanism operating in every paired period.
- dp-providential-parallels-progress-from-symbolic-to-image-to-substantial (Ch 2-1) — symbolic/image/substantial type-escalation. New atomics explicitly mark the image (Tabernacle/Temple → Church) and substantial (kingdom → empire) escalations in each period.
- dp-foundation-of-substance-removes-fallen-nature-via-cain-abel-indemnity (Ch 2-1) — Cain/Abel mechanism. New divided-kingdoms atomic flags a polarity inversion between OT (Judah=Abel, south) and NT (Holy Roman Empire=Abel, east) that DP does not explicitly address — flagged in atomic body, parking-thread material.
- dp-vertical-indemnity-conditions-restored-horizontally-by-later-central-figure (Ch 2-4) — vertical→horizontal cascade. New Malachi-to-Jesus / Reformation-to-Second-Advent atomic explicitly invokes this mechanism for the final 4000/6000-year accumulation.

Threads (new — append to _meta/parking/threads.md)
- DP’s Western-Christendom-as-providential-history (§§1–6 detailed-content claims) vs modern medieval historiography — anchors: dp-judges-and-regional-church-leadership-parallel-as-feudalistic-pre-monarchic-period, dp-saul-david-solomon-parallel-to-charlemagne-and-carolingian-line-in-monarchic-stage, dp-divided-kingdoms-ns-and-ew-parallel-as-third-generation-fracture-with-prophet-then-chastisement | trigger: Ch 5 §§1–4 specific-figure identifications | one-line: DP’s specific-figure pairings (Charlemagne ≈ Saul; Otto I ≈ Rehoboam-stage Judah-king-equivalent; Holy Roman Empire vs France ≈ Israel vs Judah inverted-polarity) are testable against modern medievalists (Peter Brown The Rise of Western Christendom, Chris Wickham The Inheritance of Rome, R.W. Southern Western Society and the Church in the Middle Ages); engagement should examine whether DP’s specific identifications survive critical medieval historiography or are post-hoc theological overlays | review: dp-2-5a-period-parallels.md
- The Crusades as providential chastisement vs critical Crusades historiography — anchors: dp-divided-kingdoms-ns-and-ew-parallel-as-third-generation-fracture-with-prophet-then-chastisement | trigger: Ch 5 §4 closing | one-line: DP reads the eight Crusades as God’s external chastisement of an unrepentant corrupt papacy paralleling Assyrian/Babylonian chastisement of Israel — a strong providential reading that conflicts with critical readings of the Crusades as Christian aggression, pilgrimage-protection mission, political-economic enterprise, or eschatological project (Thomas Asbridge The Crusades, Christopher Tyerman God’s War, Jonathan Riley-Smith The Crusades, Christianity, and Islam); engagement should evaluate whether DP’s chastisement reading survives historical scrutiny of Crusade-causation | review: dp-2-5a-period-parallels.md
- The Cain/Abel polarity inversion between OT (Judah=Abel-south) and NT (Holy Roman Empire=Abel-east) divided kingdoms — anchors: dp-divided-kingdoms-ns-and-ew-parallel-as-third-generation-fracture-with-prophet-then-chastisement | trigger: Ch 5 §4 inversion-not-flagged | one-line: DP’s parallel between Israel/Judah and Holy-Roman-Empire/France assigns the Abel-position differently between the two ages (Judah-south = Abel in OT, but Holy Roman Empire-east = Abel in NT — and France-west is described as Cain) — Cain-side is south in OT, west in NT; if Cain/Abel polarity is providentially-meaningful, why does it invert between paired periods? Engagement should evaluate whether the inversion is principled (e.g., Cain-position varies with geography or providential center) or a curve-fit artifact | review: dp-2-5a-period-parallels.md
- DP’s regional-religions-as-God-founded-preparation (Buddhism, Hellenism, Confucianism as parallel arms of the same providence) vs exclusivist Christian missiology and comparative-religion scholarship — anchors: dp-malachi-to-jesus-and-reformation-to-second-advent-parallel-as-400-year-preparation | trigger: Ch 5 §6 §3rd paragraph | one-line: DP’s positive identification of Gautama, Socrates, and Confucius as God-founded preparatory revelations for Christ is a strong universalist move — one of DP’s most theologically distinctive comparative-religion claims; engagement with classical exclusivism (Karl Barth’s “religion as unbelief”, D.A. Carson The Gagging of God), inclusivism (Vatican II Nostra Aetate, Karl Rahner’s anonymous-Christian thesis), pluralism (John Hick An Interpretation of Religion), and comparative-religion frameworks (Hans Küng Tracing the Way); evaluate whether DP’s frame is closest to Rahnerian inclusivism or distinct in claiming historically-causal providential founding | review: dp-2-5a-period-parallels.md

Questions (append to _meta/parking/questions.md)
- [interesting] DP’s parallel between Saul (anointed by Samuel) and Charlemagne (crowned by Leo III in 800 CE) loads a specific 1900-year-separated identification: Saul was the 40-year first-king of Israel; Charlemagne the first-emperor of Christendom. Does the parallel require Charlemagne to have failed in the same specific way Saul failed (disobedience to prophet-given command), or just to have produced a similar three-generation collapse? Charlemagne reigned 46 years, not 40 — does the year-count matter, or is the structural-role-occupation what carries? — anchors: dp-saul-david-solomon-parallel-to-charlemagne-and-carolingian-line-in-monarchic-stage | one-line: tests precision-vs-flexibility of DP’s specific-figure pairings | review: dp-2-5a-period-parallels.md
- [interesting] DP claims that after Jesus’s ascension, “God did not raise up any one person as the central figure responsible for His entire providence.” This is a striking exception to the central-figure mechanism that runs through every prior period. Does this mean the providence ran without a central figure for ~2000 years (from Jesus to the Second Advent), or that the resurrected Jesus + Holy Spirit jointly were the central figure-equivalent? If the former, the central-figure doctrine has a 2000-year gap; if the latter, the doctrine is preserved by counting non-incarnate figures. — anchors: dp-egypt-slavery-and-roman-persecution-parallel-as-400-year-satan-separation, dp-parallel-providential-periods-arise-from-substitute-central-figure-after-failure | one-line: tests structural-completeness of the central-figure doctrine across the prolongation age | review: dp-2-5a-period-parallels.md
