Summary. Jacob (Genesis 25-49), younger twin of Esau and grandson of Abraham, is in DP the providential figure who first successfully establishes the foundation of substance: by winning his elder brother Esau’s loving submission (Genesis 33) after years of indemnity in Haran, he completed the Cain-Abel reversal at the family level. His twelve sons become the twelve tribes of Israel and the lineage through which the Messiah is to come.
