Claim. Christ at the Second Advent will not return among the Jewish people — Jesus’s own parable of the vineyard (Matt 21:33–43) declares the kingdom of God will be taken from those who rejected him and given to another nation; “Israel” is a name earned by faith and providential prevailing, not by lineage from Jacob; the chosen people for the Second Advent are the Christians who inherit Abraham’s faith, and through them the Third Israel of the SA-receiving nation.
Elaboration. Per 3.1. Will Christ Return among the Jewish People?: some read Rev 7:4 (144,000 from Israel’s tribes) and Matt 10:23 (“not gone through all the towns of Israel”) as locating the SA among Jews. The vineyard parable refutes this. The householder is God; the vineyard, God’s work; the tenants, the Jewish people; the servants, the prophets; the son, Jesus; the other tenants who harvest, “some other nation which can receive Christ at the Second Advent.” Jesus: “the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.”
“Israel” by faith, not lineage. “Israel” means “the one who has prevailed” — Jacob received it by defeating the angel at Jabbok to secure the Abel-position. The name applies to those who triumph through faith, not all who descend from Jacob. John the Baptist: “Do not presume to say… ‘We have Abraham as our father’; God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.” Paul: “not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel”; “real circumcision is a matter of the heart.”
Historical sift. The Exodus generation lost the Israel-name when they turned against God; only the younger generation entered Canaan as true Israel. Of those, the ten northern tribes who transgressed perished; only the two southern tribes remained as the people who could receive Jesus. When they led Jesus to the cross, they too “lost their qualification to be the people centrally responsible for God’s providence.”
Transition to Second Israel and beyond. Paul (Rom 11:11) testifies the center shifted from Jews to Gentiles — Christians inheriting Abraham’s faith became the Second Israel, responsible for laying the SA foundation. The next stage — Third Israel, addressed in §3.2–3.3 — is the nation where Christ will be born.
