Claim. The 400-year period of the Israelite judges and the 400-year period of regional church leadership in Western Europe are substantial parallels of the same providential function — a feudalistic pre-monarchic period with no central political authority, in which local figures combine prophetic, priestly, and kingly roles around an Abel-position cultic center (Tabernacle/Church) — and both are derailed by the same failure mode: syncretism with the dominant pagan culture.

Elaboration. Per Part 2 Ch 5 §2: fifteen judges from Othniel to Samuel governed Israelite tribes for ~400 years, filling the three offices later split into prophet, priest, and king. Israel was a feudalistic society with no central political authority. The NT parallel: patriarchs, bishops, and abbots led Christian society after the persecution-period ended, with prophet-priest-king-resembling duties; Christian society was also feudalistic under local ecclesiastical authorities.

The opening conditions mirror: the judges-period began after Egypt-liberation when the younger generation under Joshua and Caleb entered Canaan; the regional-church period began after Rome’s Christianization, as Christians evangelized the Germanic peoples who had migrated into Western Europe escaping the Huns. God “raised up the Germanic tribes as a new chosen people” and established an early feudal society that matured into medieval feudalism.

The Abel-position object escalates: in the OT the Israelites built the Tabernacle as the symbol of the Messiah; in the NT the Church was the image of the Messiah, with bishops and monastic leaders as the Abel-positioned authorities. Both ages fail the same way: instead of destroying or evangelizing surrounding paganism, the chosen-people-equivalent live among the seven Canaanite tribes / pagan Germanic tribes, take their customs, and bring “great confusion to faith” — Canaanite idol-worship for OT, Germanic paganism inflecting Christianity for NT.

A key structural shift: the OT focus was national (politics, economy, religion all national); NT Christian loyalty transcended national barriers (serving Jesus as King of Kings), so the spiritual kingdom expanded globally rather than concentrating in one nation.

Significance. Establishes the pre-monarchic feudalistic phase as a constant providential stage rather than an OT-particular contingency. The Germanic-tribes-as-new-chosen-people claim is DP’s load-bearing identification for the next 1500 years of Western European providential history; it is the most testable Western-centrism commitment introduced in this section.
