Claim. When devout believers become spiritually open and reach the spiritual level of pre-Fall Adam and Eve (top of growth stage), they face the same temptation the first ancestors failed to overcome. Without Principle understanding, they can repeat the Fall — nullifying years of devotion in an instant.

Elaboration. Per 2.2.6. Spiritual Phenomena in the Last Days: “When people of devout faith become spiritually open and reach the level of heart comparable to Adam and Eve just prior to their fall, they will face a test similar to that which Adam and Eve failed to overcome. If they are not careful, they may commit the mistake of the Fall. It is extremely difficult to overcome this temptation without understanding the Principle. Regrettably, many religious people have failed to overcome this test, nullifying in an instant accomplishments gained through years of devotion and exertion.”

Mechanism is structural: every individual’s growth recapitulates Adam and Eve’s path, so the same test must be passed at the top of the growth stage to enter completion. The Fall is a chronic temptation at that ceiling — not a one-time historical event.

Implications:

  • High-level spiritual experience is more dangerous than low-level — proximity to completion creates proximity to the test.
  • Without Principle understanding, charismatic believers are predictably vulnerable; DP positions itself as the safeguard.
  • Given DP’s sexual-fall doctrine, the test is likely conjugal/erotic — implicit here, developed elsewhere in UC literature.
  • Connects to dp-you-are-the-lord-revelations-are-position-recognition-not-identity: the “you are the Lord” revelation is itself part of the temptation.

DP’s explanation for the recurring pattern of charismatic leaders who fall into sexual scandal at ministry-peak: a structural prediction, not just moral failing.
