Claim. When Jesus says “the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven,” the sun is Jesus, the moon is the Holy Spirit, and the stars are faithful Christian believers. Sun and moon darkened means the New Testament Word’s mission has lapsed; stars falling means many Christians will miss the Second Advent the way many Jews missed the First.

Elaboration. Per 3.2. Bible Verses Concerning the Signs of the Last Days: DP grounds the typology in Joseph’s dream (Genesis 37:9–10), where “the sun and moon symbolized the parents, while the stars symbolized their children.” Since “Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the True Parents who came to give rebirth to humanity in place of Adam and Eve,” sun and moon in the eschatological verses refer to them, and the stars to “the faithful believers who are their children.”

“For the sun to be darkened and the moon to lose its light means that the New Testament Word given by Jesus and the Holy Spirit will lose its luster.” This is structurally parallel to how “the Old Testament Word was eclipsed when Jesus and the Holy Spirit came and gave us the New Testament Word.” When the new truth fulfills the New Testament, the New Testament Word in turn loses its light — the period of its mission having lapsed.

“The stars will fall from heaven” means that “in the Last Days many faithful Christian believers will make a misstep and fall from God’s grace” — paralleling how the Jewish leaders of Jesus’s day rejected him. The pattern grounds DP’s persecution-by-old-age claim (dp-new-age-saints-persecuted-by-old-age-pattern).
