Claim. The three educational ideals — perfection of individuality, perfection of family, and perfection of dominion — are derived directly from the three great blessings of being fruitful, multiplying, and having dominion.
Elaboration. Lee builds the architecture of education by mapping each blessing onto a corresponding ideal (C. Three Great Ideals of Education). The first blessing (“be fruitful”) means growing to mature individuality, so its educational ideal is perfection of one’s character. The second blessing (“multiply and fill the earth”) means becoming qualified as husband or wife and forming a family, so its educational ideal is perfection of one’s family. The third blessing (“subdue the earth, have dominion”) means inheriting God’s creativity to exercise dominion over all things, so its educational ideal is perfection of one’s dominion.
This derivation is doing serious structural work. It means the curriculum of education is not optional or culturally relative — it is fixed by the creation order itself. Any educational program that omits family formation, or that omits training in dominion (creativity over creation), or that omits individual character is by Unification lights truncated. This is the basis on which Lee will later critique democratic education (over-emphasizes individual rights), Communist education (collapses individuality into labor collective), and Dewey (no fixed purpose at all).
The mapping also generates the three forms of education developed in the next section: an education of heart for perfection of individuality, an education of norm for perfection of family, and an education of dominion (intellectual + technical + physical) for perfection of dominion. So the entire pedagogical taxonomy is recursively derived from Genesis 1:28.
Worth noting that Lee’s reading of “be fruitful” as individual perfection (rather than reproduction) and “multiply” as family formation (rather than mere reproduction) is exegetically distinctive — most Christian readings collapse “be fruitful and multiply” into a single procreation command. The Unification split allows each verb to do separate pedagogical work, which is why the three great blessings generate three ideals rather than two.
