Summary. Cain, firstborn of Adam and Eve, killed his brother Abel after his offering was rejected by God (Genesis 4). In DP this is read as the archetype of providential history: Cain — representing fallen humanity’s elder line, closer to Satan by birth-order priority — must submit to the Abel-type figure (whose offering is accepted by God) in order to remove the four fallen natures and establish the foundation of substance. The pattern recurs in Esau-Jacob, the sons of Tamar, and beyond.
