Claim. The “original homeland” of Pledge 1 is not anyone’s birthplace but the unfallen world Adam and Eve would have populated, accessible only through true-parents who alone can re-establish its starting point.
Elaboration. SMM is direct about the homeland’s location and ancestor: “If the ancestors of humankind had not fallen at the outset, where would the original homeland have been? There is no doubt that it would have been the Garden of Eden – that village, those mountains and rivers – where Adam and Eve lived” (1.3. Seeking our original homeland, 23-74 1969.5.11). The mediation point is True Parents: “Who is the ancestor that can find the true original homeland? It is God. It is God and True Parents. If you are the true individual who is to be connected through the true ancestor, it cannot happen without meeting the True Parents and the True God” (267-321). And the homeland is family-shaped, not territorial: “Once you find your hometown, the nation and world will naturally come into oneness. … Everything develops from families” (260-156 1994.5.2). Pledge-1’s “seek our original homeland” is therefore the inverse of religious world-renunciation — it returns the seeker home rather than sending them away.
