Claim. SMM teaches that True Parents’ restoration work extends beyond the living: they “abolish hell” and give the Blessing even to ancestors already in the spirit world — making restoration retroactive across generations, not just forward to descendants.
Elaboration. The strongest formulation in Ch 3: “Since the Fall was an improper marriage in the Garden of Eden, this is now being rectified as the True Parents create proper marriages. True Parents are clearing away the evil deeds of the false parents, thereby abolishing hell, and giving the Blessing even to hundreds of billions of ancestors in the spirit world” (4.1. True children should go through the change of lineage and rebirth, 172-53, 1988.1.7).
The mechanism vertical-horizontal: “Through the foundation of their descendants’ families on earth, centered on true love, the ancestors in the spirit world and their descendants on earth unite vertically. Furthermore, based on the foundation of such families, the East and the West become connected to each other” (ibid).
Three implications cascade. (1) Retroactive scope: restoration’s reach is not bounded by death — pre-Messiah generations who could not access the Blessing in life can receive it post-mortem through their living descendants’ standing. (2) Hell as remediable: hell is not eternal; it is “abolished” by True Parents’ work. This is sharply distinct from classical Christian eschatology. (3) Descendant-mediated grace: spirit-world ancestors depend on the living family’s foundation — a structural inversion of the usual living-pray-for-dead direction.
This distinguishes UC eschatology from Catholic indulgences-for-souls (one-way intercession), from LDS proxy baptism (rite-for-dead by surrogate), and from Protestant once-saved-always-saved frameworks. The Blessing’s spirit-world reach is mediated by family lineage completing the four-position foundation across the death boundary.
