Claim. Israel’s 70-year Babylonian captivity followed by ~140 years of staged return is one ~210-year providential cycle, paralleled in the NT age by the 70-year Avignon papal exile followed by the Great Schism, the conciliar movement, and the restoration of papal authority — another ~210-year cycle running 1309 to 1517 — and both close with reform foundations preparing for the next age (Malachi/Ezra/Nehemiah → Messiah; Reformation → Second Advent).
Elaboration. Per Part 2 Ch 5 §5: when Israel failed to realize the God-nation-founded-on-Temple ideal, God brought hardship via Babylonian exile — paralleling Egypt-slavery as a fresh dispensation. Nebuchadnezzar captured Jehoiachin, the royal family, Daniel, Ezekiel, priests, and craftsmen; the exile lasted ~70 years until Cyrus’s liberation decree, then three waves over ~140 years rebuilt Jerusalem and the nation under Ezra, Nehemiah, and Malachi.
The NT-age parallel: when the popes and emperors of the Christian empire did not establish the foundation for the Second Advent, God let the popes be exiled. King Philip IV imprisoned Pope Boniface VIII, then in 1309 forced Pope Clement V to move the papacy from Rome to Avignon, where seven popes lived 70 years subject to the French kings until Gregory XI returned to Rome in 1377.
The return stage: the Great Schism began after Gregory’s death (Italian Urban VI vs French Clement VII at Avignon); the Council of Pisa (1409) briefly produced three contending popes; the Council of Constance (1414-1417) dismissed all three and elected Martin V, ending the Schism. The conciliar movement (Basel 1431, disbanded 1449) tried to institutionalize the Church as a constitutional monarchy by giving councils supreme authority over the pope. That attempt failed, the papacy recovered authority, Wycliffe and Hus’s deeper reforms were condemned (Hus burned at Constance), and the 1517 Reformation was set up.
1309 to 1517 ≈ 210 years matches the Babylonian 70+140 cycle: identical providential purpose, restoring the prior age’s exile/return so a new Messiah-preparation age could open.
Significance. Avignon (1309) and Reformation (1517) are DP’s NT-age anchors for the 210-year exile-return periodization. The length is generated by the Israelite cycle and applied to the papal cycle — the most direct test of whether DP’s parallel-periods doctrine is structurally derived or historically curve-fit.
