Claim. Give-and-receive action comes in four kinds — identity-maintaining, developmental, inner, and outer — yielding four corresponding kinds of four-position foundation that account for both static existence and dynamic development in God and creation.
Elaboration. Lee distinguishes two axes of give-and-receive action. The first axis is centering: action centered on Heart alone maintains identity (a harmonized union, eternal existence), while action centered on a purpose established by Heart is developmental (producing a multiplied being or new being) (Identity-Maintaining and Developmental Give and Receive Actions).
The second axis is locus: inner give-and-receive action occurs between the Inner Sungsang and Inner Hyungsang within Original Sungsang, forming Logos as a multiplied being; outer give-and-receive action occurs between Original Sungsang and Original Hyungsang, forming created beings as multiplied beings (Inner and Outer Give and Receive Actions). This two-stage inner/outer structure in God is then applied without change to creation.
Empirical illustrations span scales. The universe maintains identity (galactic shape, planetary orbits) while developing over ~15 billion years (cosmic expansion, formation of heavenly bodies, emergence of life). Plants maintain species identity while growing, blossoming, fruiting. States rise and fall yet the sovereign-people subject-object structure persists. Families vary in form yet parent-child and spouse relationships are unchanging.
Inner/outer examples likewise scale: spirit-mind/physical-mind exchange (inner) vs husband-wife exchange (outer); intra-household exchange (inner) vs social exchange (outer); within-state politics (inner) vs interstate relations (outer); sun-planets within solar system (inner) vs solar-system-to-stars (outer); nucleus-cytoplasm in a cell (inner) vs cell-to-cell (outer).
The payoff for methodology is direct: deduction is logical development through inner give-and-receive within the mind, while induction examines the external world through outer give-and-receive. In Unification methodology these are unified rather than opposed — a claim Lee will exploit when re-reading Aristotle and Bacon in Section III.
